Abstract

In Mexico, diverse sociolinguistic realities have given rise to various situations of language contact, primarily between Spanish and indigenous languages. Intense linguistic contact produces changes in the structure of both languages. This research reviews several studies that have focused on describing variation and processes of change at the morphosyntactic level due to linguistic contact in different varieties of Spanish in contact with indigenous languages. On the one hand, the stability of some of these change processes is noted, and on the other, the function served by both the structures of indigenous languages and the diverse contact situations in which they are immersed is evidenced, which demonstrates that despite sharing contact features, the process and the results are not the same across different Mexican bilingual communities.
