Abstract

The study sought to examine the relationship between procrastination and anxiety as predictors of social media addiction among Peruvian university students. The research employed a cross-sectional predictive methodological design. A sample of 335 students, aged 21 to 69 years, comprising both females and males from private and public university management, was selected through non-probabilistic sampling. The instruments utilized included the Social Media Addiction Questionnaire, the Academic Procrastination Scale, and General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7). The findings indicated that anxiety (β = 0.52, p < 0.001) and academic procrastination (β = 0.17, p = 0.040) significantly predicted social media addiction. The study concluded that there is a significant relationship between procrastination and anxiety as predictors of social media addiction in Peruvian university students.
