Zusammenfassung

As urban areas increasingly face the challenges posed by climate change, this paper introduces a future-oriented framework for integrating Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) into urban planning to enhance climate resilience. The study evaluates global case examples, assessing the performance, scalability, and governance of NbS in mitigating risks such as flooding, heat stress, and biodiversity loss. It identifies barriers to implementation, including regulatory fragmentation and socio-spatial inequalities, and proposes strategies for embedding NbS within urban policy frameworks. Emphasizing the need for systemic change, the framework links ecological design with urban planning, prioritizing environmental sustainability and social inclusivity. By addressing key research questions regarding the characteristics and performance indicators of successful NbS, the paper advocates for a paradigm shift in urban governance that harmonizes built environments with natural systems. The findings provide practical insights for planners and policymakers, aiming to bridge the gap between ecological theory and urban practice. Ultimately, the research contributes to the discourse on post-2025 urban futures, offering a roadmap for cities to adapt to climate impacts while promoting equity and ecological integrity.
